TLE6280GP Automotive 3-Phase MOSFET Bridge Driver IC for Electric Power Steering, 8-20V, -40°C to +150°C
The TLE6280GP is a dedicated 3-phase bridge driver IC designed for high-current motor drive applications in the automotive sector, particularly for Electric Power Steering (EPS) and Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) systems .
This device is engineered to control up to 12 external N-channel power MOSFETs, forming the inverter for 3-phase motor bridges. It is optimized for 12V automotive power nets but can also be used in 24V applications with appropriate power dissipation considerations .
The driver features six powerful push-pull output stages—three high-side and three low-side—each with a separate source pin for direct connection to each MOSFET's source. This design allows perfect control of each gate-source voltage, enabling the drive of high currents exceeding 200A in the bridge with switching times below 1µs .
With a PWM frequency capability up to 30kHz, the TLE6280GP offers flexible motor control strategies including field-oriented control, sinusoidal control, and block commutation . The output stages are capable of driving MOSFETs with a 250nC gate charge with rise and fall times of approximately 300ns .
The integrated charge pump generates an internal supply voltage of 13V within a supply range of 8-20V, ensuring full gate drive voltage even when the battery voltage drops below 9V. This feature guarantees that the RDS(on) of external MOSFETs does not increase, preventing extra power dissipation during low-voltage conditions .
Key protection functions include short-circuit protection with adjustable current limitation via drain-source voltage monitoring, adjustable dead-time generation (100ns to 4µs), shoot-through protection, driver undervoltage warning, reverse polarity protection, and thermal overload warning .
The innovative dI/dt control feature allows designers to reduce electromagnetic emissions by slowing the switching process during EMC-critical periods without significantly increasing switching losses . Additionally, the device provides an error flag output for diagnosing short circuits, driver overheating, and undervoltage events .
The TLE6280GP comes in a PG-DSO-36-26 power package with excellent thermal performance (Rth junction-heatsink less than 5K/W), supporting a junction temperature range of -40°C to +150°C. This robust thermal design ensures reliable operation even in harsh under-hood environments .
Beyond EPS and EHPS, this IC is ideal for engine cooling fans, water pumps, electric brake systems, and other 3-phase brushless DC motor applications in the automotive and industrial sectors .
