VBG08H Automotive Ignition Coil Driver – Smart IGBT Power Stage for ECU Applications

$1.75

VBG08H is a single‑channel ignition coil driver featuring an embedded IGBT power stage, internally assembled using Chip‑On‑Chip (COC) hybrid technology.

The two chips are integrated into a compact OctaPAK‑7 package, delivering high power density and excellent thermal performance for demanding automotive environments.

This device is specifically designed to drive large inductive loads such as ignition coils in electronic control units (ECUs) and engine management systems.

It operates over a wide supply voltage range of 5.4V to 28V, and withstands junction temperatures from –40°C up to 175°C, ensuring reliable performance under extreme under‑hood conditions.

Built‑in protection features include a coil current limiter, a thermal monitoring circuit, and a Soft Shut Down (SSD) function triggered by low‑voltage clamping. The SSD activates automatically when thermal intervention exceeds 150°C, input overvoltage occurs, or battery overvoltage is detected.

A dedicated current threshold flag diagnostic output provides a logical signal voltage when the coil current reaches a fixed threshold, enabling real‑time system monitoring.

The integrated Slow Turn‑On (STO) circuit prevents unwanted sparks during the first negative dV/dt of the high‑voltage clamping ramp at turn‑on, improving system safety and reliability.

Additional features include an Enable pin for output control, battery fault‑tolerant pins, ESD protection, and TTL‑compatible logic inputs.

With AEC‑Q100 qualification and RoHS compliance, the VBG08H is an ideal choice for aftermarket ECUs, ignition modules, engine control repairs, and automotive power management systems requiring robust, smart ignition driving capability.
