SPF3004 Dual-Output 5V/3.3V System Regulator IC with Watchdog Timer for Automotive Transmission ECUs
The SPF3004 is a dedicated dropper-type system regulator IC designed for critical automotive electronics applications, particularly transmission control units (TCUs) and engine control modules (ECMs).
This device accepts a single input supply and provides two independent regulated output channels: Channel 1 delivers 5V at up to 400mA, and Channel 2 provides 3.3V at up to 200mA. This dual-output configuration makes it an ideal power solution for modern automotive microcontrollers and peripheral logic circuits that require both voltage rails.
The SPF3004 integrates a power-on reset (POR) function that ensures proper system initialization during startup by holding the reset signal until the output voltage reaches a stable level. This prevents unpredictable behavior in the main ECU microcontroller during power-up sequences.
A built-in watchdog timer provides critical system supervision, allowing the host microcontroller to be monitored for proper operation. If the watchdog is not triggered within the programmed time window, the device can generate a reset signal to recover the system from software faults or lock-up conditions.
For enhanced system reliability, Channel 1 features built-in drooping-type overcurrent protection and thermal protection circuits. The overcurrent protection limits the output current during short-circuit or overload conditions, while the thermal protection shuts down the regulator if the junction temperature exceeds the safe operating limit.
The SPF3004 also includes a Vo1-fail detection function that monitors the 5V output and provides a fail flag when the voltage drops below the specified threshold. This allows the ECU to take preemptive action before the supply becomes critical.
The device comes in a compact surface-mount package with a fin for enhanced thermal dissipation, supporting a junction temperature range of -40°C to +150°C. This robust thermal design ensures reliable operation under the harsh under-hood and transmission environment conditions.
