The SC17XS6500CEK is a fourth-generation eXtreme switch engineered specifically for demanding automotive lighting applications. This device is part of the advanced 12XS6 family of SMARTMOS drivers, designed to precisely control and diagnose both incandescent bulbs and LEDs .

The SC17XS6500CEK features penta high-side switches with a low RDS(ON) specification of 17 mOhms per channel. This low on-resistance enables significant power savings and reduces PCB space requirements at the module level .

This driver integrates a daisy-chainable 16-bit SPI interface that operates at 5.0 MHz. It provides comprehensive digital control over overcurrent profiles, channel control, and 8-bit PWM duty-cycles .

The device offers exceptional diagnostic precision including output-ON and OFF OpenLoad detections. It also features thermal shutdown protection with prewarning, and comprehensive fault reporting .

Operating voltage range is 7.0 V to 18 V in normal mode, with extended operation from 6.0 V to 28 V. Sleep current is below 5.0 µA, making it suitable for power-sensitive applications .

Advanced protection features include programmable overcurrent trip levels and dynamic overcurrent threshold profiling. This design prevents device shutdown during inrush current while maintaining accurate load current tracking .

The SC17XS6500CEK incorporates a Limp Home mode and watchdog functionality. If communication with the external microcontroller is lost, the device enters a fail-safe operation mode while remaining protected and controllable .

Output current monitoring is enhanced with a programmable synchronization signal and battery voltage feedback. The device also includes -16 V reverse polarity and ground disconnect protections .

This driver is packaged in a Pb-Free power-enhanced SOIC-32 package with an exposed pad. It is ELV compliant and supported by a product longevity program for a minimum of 15 years after launch .

The device is ideal for low-voltage automotive exterior lighting applications. It is also suitable for halogen lamps, incandescent bulbs, LEDs, and HID Xenon ballasts .
