L9929 SPI Controlled H-Bridge Driver IC – 5A Continuous Output for Engine ECU & Electronic Throttle Control Systems

$2.31

The L9929 is an SPI-controlled H-Bridge driver IC specifically developed for DC and stepper motor control in safety-critical automotive applications. This device is engineered to operate under extreme environmental conditions, making it an ideal solution for engine management systems and electronic throttle control (ETC) modules.

This robust driver operates with a supply voltage range from 5V to 28V, providing flexibility for various automotive electrical architectures. It delivers a continuous DC load current of 5A (at Tcase < 100°C) with a typical RDS(on) of just 150 mΩ per output transistor at 25°C, ensuring efficient power delivery and reduced heat generation.

The device features comprehensive protection mechanisms essential for automotive reliability. Output current limitation is triggered at a typical 8.6A, while short-circuit shutdown activates for output currents exceeding 10.6A, safeguarding both the driver and connected actuators from fault conditions. Over-temperature protection and undervoltage disable function provide additional layers of system security.

Diagnostic capabilities are configurable via SPI or a dedicated status-flag output, offering flexibility for different system architectures. The logic inputs are TTL/CMOS-compatible, and the device supports operating frequencies up to 30kHz, enabling precise motor control in demanding applications.

The L9929 has been widely adopted in automotive ECU designs, including engine control modules and electronic throttle control systems, where precise and reliable motor actuation is critical. Housed in a SO20 power package, this IC delivers the performance, protection, and diagnostic features required for next-generation powertrain and chassis control applications.
